Chapter 15

“If this nigga don’t hurry up,” Sye mumbled to herself. “I’m fuckin’ starving.”

For the past fifteen minutes, Baby had been inside of a late modeled home in the middle of South Park. Sye was no stranger to the hood, but after earlier events that day she just wanted to go back to his apartment tucked away in the inner loop/west side area of the city, where all the uppity white people resided.

Almost as if he could hear her complaining, Baby emerged from the home. After stopping to talk to a few people, sitting on the porch, he made his way to the truck. Pulling the door open, he let in a gush of frigid air, causing Sye to shiver.

“That ass cold, huh,” he cheesed, before hopping in.

“Shut, up,” she pouted, as she rubbed her arms, attempting to warm up.

“A’ight,” he nodded, as he pulled away from the house.

Sye reached over and turned the heater up, just as Baby increased the volume of his stereo. “You wasn’t looking for a man. You made it clear. Now, I’m ever so glad that I have you near,” Tyrese’s voice serenaded them. “I was excited cause I was falling. Falling in love with you. And now that I’ve fallen what am I gonna do?”

“Say, this the shit right here,” he licked his lips. “You feel me, Lil’ Baby?” he pinched her thigh. “You heard him? One day I’ma make you my wife,” he winked, causing her heart to melt.

“Boy stop,” she blushed. Shaking her head, she gazed out of the window. Although, it was cold outside the sun was still shining brightly. It had been a long while since she’d felt like this. Absolutely and utterly free. This was the type of thing she’d been waiting for…that young, cute, good feeling vibe. She’d never smiled this much in her entire life, and she was generally a happy person. She could feel it all the way down in her toes. The feel of a new blossoming love was truly invigorating.

She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn’t realize, until they were already pulling up to the valet that he’d driven to the Galleria mall. “What are we doing here?” she asked.

“Lil’ Baby, didn’t you say that you was following my lead?” he glanced at her.

“Yeah,” she nodded.

“Alright, then. Get cha ass out.”

She rolled her eyes, just as the valet driver opened her door for her. Both she and Baby stepped out of the vehicle. One valet driver handed him a ticket, and then they proceeded into the mall. “Come on, this way,” he grabbed Sye’s hand, and guided her in the direction of the store he wanted to go in.

The mall was super crowded due to the last minute Christmas shoppers. Therefore, the two walked relatively close to keep up with one another. Eventually, they traveled to Nordstrom’s. Sye was familiar with the store, but had never actually shopped there before. Sometimes people misconstrued coming from a working class family with being wealthy.
